Sacramento Potters Group (SPG), the area’s oldest, continuing artist support group, will once again offer their annual spring pot show. The show, an annual “must see” for more than twenty years has been in hiatus since 1997 when the Country Club Plaza closed for an extensive remodel. This year’s show, “Pots in the Garden” will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95816. The show will feature beautiful handmade pottery, glass and metal sculpture produced by award-winning local artists and members of SPG. The unique, one-of-a-kind items include jewelry, decorative and functional ceramics, garden and yard art, masks and sculpture. “Pots in the Garden” has been scheduled to coincide with June’s Second Saturday Art Walk and will stay open into the early evening to be part of the festivities. “SPG is very excited about being able to bring this show to Shepard Garden and Art Center and re-launching it on a Second Saturday”, said Genelle Dwyer, local ceramic artist and one of SPG’s newest members. In addition to artists marketing their work, the show will also feature “hands-on” clay demonstrations. Representatives from SPG will be available to answer questions regarding membership or about the SPG on-going art education program. Additionally, both John Reiger and Mary Claussen, two of the founding members of SPG will be participating in the show. Situated adjacent to the McKinley Park’s renowned rose garden, “Pots in the Garden” is an excellent opportunity to see some of Sacramento’s busiest artist in person and to smell the roses along the way.
